Connecting Fieldwork, Data, and Research Outputs

Using the recently open-sourced RAMS platform, originally developed by UC Nature and now co-developed with UC3, we are building ways to connect persistent identifiers and structured research information with existing project and visit workflows. We are exploring how researchers engage with these approaches and what improves reporting and research connections. At the same time, we are working with the broader FSML community to understand the systems they use, the information they collect, and the opportunities for better connections across the research lifecycle.

So far, discovery suggests that no single operational system will work for every station. We are exploring a FAIR Station platform that could support multiple ways to participate, including RAMS, integrations with existing systems, and lightweight form-based approaches that are common across the community. We also plan to continue improving RAMS, strengthen connections between field activity and resulting datasets and publications, and explore integrations with the wider research infrastructure ecosystem. These directions will be tested and shaped with the community.
